Dress Code & Uniform Policy

The Dress Code of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Academy is designed to promote an atmosphere of class that is conservative & conducive to learning. A uniform policy promotes unity & camaraderie. Clothing should be neat, clean, modest, & tasteful at all times. Clothing at no time should be offensive, too tight, or suggestive. The dress code applies to field trips unless otherwise specified. Clothing is to reflect those items sold by uniform companies. This list is intended to define the acceptable items. Some unacceptable items are specifically mentioned. However, this is for clarification & is not intended to be an all-inclusive list.

BOYS (Grades K-8):
As found in the 2022-2023 Student Handbook.
Pants/Walking Shorts: Khaki of non-denim material. Walking shorts can be no shorter than two inches above the knee. Cargo, carpenter, painter, or polyester (stretch) pants may not be worn under. Pants must be without patch pockets on the back of the pants.. Uniform shorts can be worn in the month of August & September and can also be worn from May 1st to the end of the school year.
Belts: plain black or brown belts are required for boys in grades 5-8.
Shirts: Solid color – white or hunter green. Turtlenecks, or knit golf shirts with collar. Dress shirts must be white. Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
Sweaters/Vests/Fleece: Hunter green, navy blue or white sweaters- solid color may be button down or pullover, shirt collar
visible. Also available: Green, V-neck sweater with the Saint Charles logo only from school Belles.
1⁄4 zip Saint Charles logo fleece and sweatshirt in grey or hunter green; only available through All
Heart Athletics.
Socks: Black, navy blue, brown, tan, or white – solid color.
Shoes: Dark colored oxford or loafer dress shoes are required with non-skid soles: black, navy blue, or shades of
brown. Shoes may not be made of canvas, terry cloth or resemble athletic footwear. Shoes must
be free of colors and patterns. No boots or sandals at any time.
Hair: Length of hair in back must be above the collar (of a dress shirt) & at least one inch above the eye brows. No hair should cover the ears. Sideburns should be one inch shorter than the earlobe. No facial hair allowed. Must be clean shaven. Natural Hair coloring of any kind is unacceptable. No fad styles, designs, razor cuts of any length, tails, bowl cuts and no undercutting. Conservative, traditional styles mandatory as determined by the
administration.
Personal Attire: No earrings or jewelry associated with body piercing - and no tattoos.
Mass Attire/Ties:
Ties, Khaki uniform pants or shorts during the allowed time period and white Dress shirt with Tie is required, Grades 1 thru 6: Solid color ties, Grades 7 and 8: Appropriate dress ties – print or solid color, ties must be worn until designated lunchtime.
Gym Attire:
Saint Charles Spirit Wear (T-shirts, sweats, short and sweatshirts) is available for purchase
and also available during the free uniform exchange. Gym shoes and white or black athletic socks are required. If a student is not in proper gym clothing, failing grades may be given for that day in gym and the student will not participate during their scheduled gym time. Spirit Wear is not considered regular school uniform and will result in a uniform violation. Spirit Wear shorts are allowed in August, September and May 1st to the end of the school year
only. If shorts are worn for gym class October – April, they must be covered with Spirit Wear
sweatpants before and after gym class.

Leggings: Navy or hunter green to match our uniform colors.
Belts: Plain black, brown dress belts are required for girls in grades 5-8.
Jumpers/Skirts: Khaki - solid color. Skirt and jumper length can be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
In addition to the above items, students may also wear Green Plaid skirts and jumpers (School Belles or Land’s End).
Blouses: White - solid color. Dress (Peter Pan or oxford style collars), knit golf shirts with collar, or turtlenecks in white or hunter green. Blouses/shirts must be tucked in at all times. Please be sure they are long enough to tuck in.

Cosmetics: May wear clear nail polish only. No make-up during school hours.
Mass Attire:
Khaki uniform slacks or shorts during the allowed time period. Green plaid or khaki jumper or
skirt. White dress blouse required. St. Charles logo fleece cannot be worn during Mass. Hair
accessories must be simple and/or modest. Grades 7th & 8th- any color socks.

All jean attire worn on jeans day or Birthday jean days must be blue denim. Jean shorts can be worn in the months of
August and September and from May 1st to the end of the school year on Jean Days. Girls and boys may wear shorts
that must touch the top of knee. Girls may also wear capris. Acceptable attire includes jean shorts, capris or jeans,
acceptable tops, gym shoes, flat shoes, or boots with no heel.
Musical group shirts, tank tops as well as shirts with inappropriate or questionable words on them are unacceptable. No
open toe/heel sandals/crocks/shoes are allowed. No yoga pants, leggings, jeggings, or skinny jeans (tight fitting
elastic/stretch shorts or pants). Cargo pants, shorts or any other pants having pockets on the sides of the legs, may not
be worn under any circumstances.
Jean Day Passes:
All Jean Day Passes awarded through the Magazine Sale must be used by date noted on pass.
Birthday Jean Day:
Students may wear Jean Day Attire on their birthday only. If a student’s birthday falls on the
weekend, or a Mass Day, the student may wear Jean Day Attire on the next scheduled school day. All students with
summer birthdays may wear Jean Day Attire on the “scheduled summer birthday Jean Day” announced in the Spring.
Students are not allowed to pick random days to use as a birthday Jean Day.
Birthday Jean Day follows Jean Day Attire guidelines.

Athletics, formerly known as Ricks Sports, or at our uniform exchange)

Spirit Wear Days: Gym Spirit Wear is acceptable. Saint Charles Sports Team uniforms, t-shirts, or
sports sweatshirts are acceptable. Saint Charles Catholic Schools Week Class T-shirts are acceptable. Any
Saint Charles associated shirts are acceptable.
** We will have a Spirit Wear Day once a month.**
